Answer: Synergy is a Western Australian energy provider using digital projects and business intelligence to hone a group of agile delivery capabilities developed under the guidance of recently appointed CIO Gary Peel. With the help of Business Intelligence (BI), the company has tried to embed its agile methodologies with right type program (Crozier 2017). Webi (SAP business objects web intelligence) provides the analytic teams and business units more access to data so the analytic teams can go in and interrogate the data by themselves (Crozier 2017). In addition, with the help of its online property, the digital strategy of Synergy can help to develop engagement with consumers (users of energy). According to the CIO of Synergy, the major strategy of the company is to be more contemporary and emphasize on agile delivery system. They want to drive their customer to more self-service process. SAP can provide that desired self-service capability and process automation to the company. The company Synergy an SAP Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system combined with SAP industry-specific solution for utilities (IS-U) (Crozier 2017). There are also two other BI modules that the company uses. They are such as human capital management (HCM) and financial accounting and controlling (FICO) (Crozier 2017). It has been found that from 30th June 2016, the company is running its full operation on a single SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The company had merged with Verve energy (a state owned business) since 2014. It had been found that the company Verve had been running on Ellipse. However, according to the CIO of the company Synergy, Peels integration and architectural point of view having all the ERP systems on one platform is totally justified (Crozier 2017). It helps the generation business unit to live on their SAP ERP platform and HR also at the same time. These Business intelligence programs help to develop a BI stream of work that emphasize to add value to the recent implementation of SAP HANA. In addition, it helped to enhance the way in which consumers of synergy can interact with the company online. This business intelligence programs work together to develop a BI capability that can drive the projects, services and products via web with the help of agile methodology. It helps to embed the developers with the earlier scoping of work that can develop more value for the business (Crozier 2017). The CIO stated that, with the help of BI, developers can upstream to the requirement phase and drive out data sources for HANA to develop reports or analytic capabilities. It can help to understand the management team to understand how consumers utilize energy and what types of products can be offered to them. There is no doubt that creative geniuses are the master mind behind favorite TV shows. However, the attribution of data analysis behind successful development of these TV shows cannot be denied. Many developers use big data to make sure that a show will hit or not. Sebastian Wernicke (A Munich-based data scientist) analyzed the importance of big data in developing a TV show. In a TED Talk film organized in TEDxCambridge (released on TED.com) Sebastian Wernicke explained this concept (Lazzaro 2017). He said that, in order to dominate television, tech savvy and technology driven companies have started to use big data. Netflix and Amazon can serve as the great example. Netflix used data apart to develop a concept of show while Amazon used data to develop an entire show. Wrink had developed a rating curve for 2,500 shows. This curve indicated that Breaking bad is at the high end (right) and Tiaras and Toddler on the other end. On the other hand, Amazons TV show Alpha House got average rating of 7.5 (Lazzaro 2017). These two tech savvy companies had connected millions of data points to develop these shows. It worked properly for one of them and did not work for another. Now, it is required to find out the reason behind this result. Amazon had decided to put together a data driven show. For this purpose, the company had organized a competition. They had evaluated a bunch of show ideas. Among these ideas, they selected eight of them (Lazzaro 2017). They developed eight pilot shows on these eight ideas and released them online. From that, they analyzed the data and created a show about four Republican U.S. senators and named it as Alpha House. On the other hand, Netflix had also come up with similar idea. Instead of organizing a competition, they analyzed the data they got from their viewers platform (viewing history and rating). Depending on the data, the company took a leap of faith and developed a show about single U.S. senator (Lazzaro 2017). The major reason the failure of Amazon is that the company used data all the way to develop the show. On the other hand, Netflix used data such as users preferences to develop a concept that they believed to become a hit (Lazzaro 2017). Sebastian Wernicke added by saying that there is also another tool that can make a hit show. That is the brain of an expert. According to him, the major reason behind the success of Netflix is that it used brain and data together in the process to develop a show. On the other hand, Amazon only relied on data to develop its show. The major problem with medicines is that most of them are focused on the body structure of people live in western world (InformationWeek 2017). Due to different genetic structure, proteome and body flora, most of these drugs do not work properly in people from other countries and minorities. On the other hand testing drugs on different groups can increase cost of production and time of development for a drug. However, Big Data and information technology (IT) can be used by medicine companies for drug trails. There are some major ways in which big data and IT can help medicine companies. They are discussed below: Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program The goal of this $130 million project is to study the ongoing health records of more than 1 million people (InformationWeek 2017). It will help to find out how individuals respond to different type of drugs. Their health history, lifestyle and environmental exposure will be tracked. It will develop a large pull of data, which can be use to check the effectiveness of a drug (InformationWeek 2017). It can also be used for small trials as well. For example, a company can select 100 people from a specific group to study their response towards a specific drug. Therapy Choice (NCI-Match) Trial It is an initiative taken in cancer research program NCI-Match. 1000 people with different types of tumors are enrolled in this program. Different medicines are tested on them to find out different Reponses. It helped to develop a database of drugs that have positive effect on different types of tumors. In future, this data can help to develop best personalized care for people suffering from fatal types of cancer (InformationWeek 2017). There are many other programs developed to study the effect of different medicines on different people. For example wisdom study enrolled 100,000 women to find whether mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer or not (InformationWeek 2017). There is also another project named Dream Team. This team used faster computers to sequence more than 3 million pairs of DNA to cure skin cancer. In future, all these large data pools can be used to check effectiveness of medicines in different group of people.
